After eight years of teaching English abroad, I decided to come back home to LA to help improve my community. I think urban agriculture is a good option, especially with Afro-Americans because we have a complicated past with farming American soil. So, I am trying to implement what I have learned at Venice Learning Garden & Crenshaw Community Garden in my grandma’s backyard. Only time will tell. Ojalá

First day work

winter cover crop- sprouted lentil beans on a semi-raised plot (there was a shed on this land for about 25 years, so I’m not sure how good the soil is)

California native flower seed mixture

having some success with seedling. Hope the transplant goes well.
